Regine Schumann: Immersion in Fluorescent Light Miami
The dynamic works of Regine Schumann are an exploration of the scientific and aesthetic relationship between color and light. Utilizing industrial acrylic plates, Schumann blends fluorescent and photo-luminescent pigments into each of her acrylic panels to create complimentary reflective and transmissive qualities. Her distinct colorways are modeled after Goethe’s theory of colors. Schumann's playful study of light and form result in a metamorphic and interactive artwork that shifts in response to the wavelength of its light source.
Referencing both minimalism and concrete art, Schumann considers the intrinsic metaphors and nuances of both color and light. The chameleon-like shifts of her light objects, discernable in different light moods such as daylight, artificial light, or blacklight enable an ever-changing viewing experience and accentuate the relation of color, light, and surrounding space. Her most recent series, Colormirror Moons, implements shadows to create variations in the appearance of shade, focus, and depth. Challenging the synchronicity of visible and invisible, visible color illumination, and invisible inner illumination, Schumann’s “suspended” and “spectral” colorways stretch ideas of perception.
